Intensity Adverbs in French

Adverb Meaning Example
Très Strengthens the degree of the adjective or adverb it is linked to. – He is très (very) nice.
– She speaks très (very) slowly.
Trop Indicates an excessive or negative degree. – He eats trop (too) many candies.
– It’s trop (too) expensive.
Assez Indicates a sufficient or moderate degree. – She is assez (quite) intelligent.
– He has assez (enough) money.
Beaucoup Indicates a large quantity or a high degree. – He has beaucoup (many) friends.
– She sings beaucoup (much) better.
